experiences this week, but it was also sort of a whirl wind of a week.
It seemed to go by very fast, but at the same time the days seemed long. I loved being able to take over the classroom from my clinical educator. It was a pleasant surprise that all the days
after Monday went pretty well. Monday was a rough day because I felt that I was doing
everything for the very first time, and in some ways, I was. I think it was an
accomplishment that I survived my first week of full time teaching! YAY! From my work experiences,I was able to learn about the students that I am serving from the teacher perspective. My students seem to work well under the direction of given time
frames with a timer on the board. While we won't do this for every activity, we will be working with the timer a little more next week. In the short term, I want to get my EDTPA task two written this weekend. This will give me the opportunity to review task one and two in order to make sure that I have everything I need before headinginto next week. This is aligned to my long-term goal of better learning how to serve my students that I teach because it gives me the opportunity to be a reflective practitioner of education. I could have spent less time lesson plans and more time on EdTPA. I have learned that I am not able to use the lesson plan outline for teaching every lesson because it is not a quick glance tool. After Monday, I spent the night before condensing
each of my lesson plans into one page so that I could do a quick reference of them during the day. This took up a lot of time. I would like to have this time to focus on creating and exploring new ideas for my students. I was a little apprehensive on Monday, so I don't feel as if I was as effective of an educator as I could've been. I was much more confident and I felt like each day I was more and more comfortable with my students. I am still working on the lesson plans for next week, but they are subject to change based off of the weather from the hurricane. After I get this done, I will be able to clear that mental clutter for the week. This week and last week we worked on multiplication timed quizzes for students. We studied the data in order to understand where our students are. This will be included in our data talk next week. We are waiting for all IREADY scores to be finished in order
to make meaningful groupings for the students during group time.
NCPTS:
Standard 1a: During this week, I implemented a behavior plan to help a student of mine to break down behavior expectations for him by each subject time.
This is a use of a positive management tool for his behavior. Every time that he follows procedures and uses appropriate behavior for that time frame, he
earns classroom economy money.
Standard 2a: This week I encouraged a positive and nurturing environment by teaching a little about adjectives. Each student had to sit beside someone that
they don't normally in the circle on the carpet. Each student used a positive adjective to describe the person next to them. Then, we switched and went around
the other way. This helped to build a nurturing and encouraging classroom environment.
Standard 3a: I integrated literacy into our content reading "science reading" for this week.
Through having students learn new science concepts from an article this integrated literacy.
Standard 4b: I conferenced with one of my students one-on- ones in order to gain insight on how best to meet his needs during our class. Through this we have decided that this particular student may not always be able to join us on the carpet. We also lowered his desk to his level and got a chair from the kindergarten building in order to fit him better.
Standard 5c: As this was my EdTPA teaching week, my teaching was supported with research this week. I supported my teaching with research with different topics such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs and differentiation.
Other: This week, I collected more data about our classroom and my students for my portfolio. In this, I have brainstormed some classroom technology tools, and I incorporated a padlet for students reflections to be shared with me. My CE and I don't have any questions at this time.

Mallory,
ReplyDeleteYour reflections are very detailed and give us a clear indication about your week. I love your idea to use an adjective study building a positive and nurturing environment. Also, developing a behavior plan for a student is a good plan! I look forward to hearing how the plan works and how you revise it if needed.
I am sure next week will be successful as you gain more and more confidence and experience in your full time of teaching.
Take care!!
Mallory, I can totally relate to how your week went! However, I am glad you have been able to figure out what your students like and what methods work best for them. I also agree with you about the lesson plans. We write very long detailed lessons, but when it comes to it we need something shorter that we can look at. I also condense mine, but I write each lesson on a sticky note just to remind me of key details to make sure I cover everything I planned. Keep up the good work and stay safe this weekend!
ReplyDeleteMallory, Congrats on completing your first full week! I agree that it is much easier to have a separate quick glance document or sticky note to highlight everything I should do during my lesson. It's great to hear that you gained more confidence with your students as the week went on. I'm sure you'll continue to feel more comfortable. Hang in there!
